Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

NetCarb ("we", "our", or "us") is an app that estimates the carbohydrates in a meal from a photo. This Privacy Policy explains what information the NetCarb app, website and server collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

Food photos: When you scan a meal or choose a photo, the app sends it to our server, which passes it to an AI service to estimate the carbs. Photos are used only to produce that estimate. We do not keep them on our server after the analysis, and we do not use them for advertising.

Meal history: Your saved results and photos are stored on your device. They are not uploaded to our server.

Account information: You can sign in with your email address or with Google. Sign-in is handled by our provider Clerk. If you use "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We store a user ID, your email address and your subscription status.

Free scan limits: You can try a few scans without an account. To apply free scan limits, we store how many scans have been used by your account, by your app installation (a random ID created by the app) and by your network (IP) address.

Purchases: On Android, purchases are made through Google Play. On the web, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of your purchase, the plan you chose and its status (for example trial, renewal, cancellation or refund). We never receive or store your card details.

Analytics and advertising ID: The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, for example app opens, scans, sign-ups, when plans are viewed and when a purchase is made. These events are also used to measure our Google Ads campaigns. This uses your device's advertising ID and basic device information such as device model, operating system, app version and approximate location based on your network.

3. Camera and Photo Access

The app asks for camera access so you can photograph meals, and photo library access only when you choose an existing photo. You can turn these permissions off at any time in your device settings.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To estimate carbs from your photos and show you the results
  • To create and manage your account and apply free scan limits
  • To process and verify purchases, free trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds, and to unlock Premium
  • To understand how the app is used and improve it
  • To measure the performance of our advertising
  • To respond to support requests and to prevent fraud and abuse

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Third-Party Services

We share information only with service providers that run parts of NetCarb for us. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:

  • Clerk (sign-in and accounts): clerk.com/legal/privacy
  • AI analysis provider (photo analysis; currently Anthropic or Google, depending on configuration). Photos are sent only to produce your estimate.
  • Google (Google sign-in, Google Play billing, Google Analytics for Firebase and Google Ads): policies.google.com/privacy
  • Stripe (web payments): stripe.com/privacy
  • Railway (hosting for our server and database)

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and NetCarb.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Advertising ID: You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads).
  • Subscriptions: On Android, manage or cancel in the Google Play Store (Profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions). Web subscriptions can be managed through the Stripe billing portal, which you can open from the app.
  • Meal history: You can delete it in the app, or remove it completely by uninstalling the app.
  • Account data: You can ask us to access, correct or delete your account and the data linked to it by emailing support.netcarb@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days.

If you are in the EU, UK or Canada, you have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR or PIPEDA, including access, correction, deletion and objection. Contact us at support.netcarb@gmail.com to use them.

7. Data Retention and Security

Photos are not kept on our server after analysis. We keep account and purchase records while your account exists, and afterwards as long as needed for legal, tax and accounting purposes. Usage counts for free scan limits are kept only as long as needed to apply those limits. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your data unless we must keep it by law.

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and we use reasonable safeguards to protect it. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Transfers

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

9. Children

NetCarb is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Medical Disclaimer

NetCarb is NOT a medical device and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice. Carb estimates are approximations for informational purposes only. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your diabetes management plan.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
